Especially so when you fail your task. Licorice Cookie shuddered at the thought of Head Icon Pomegranate Cookie's ice-cold glare. This next mission was ambitious enough to help the young dark sorcerer restore his... not so good name. Licorice Cookie could describe it as "totally random poison mushroom mayhem in the woods!" Officially, the mission was titled "Operation Poison Mushroom." "Sprinkles! I mushroomed the sprinkles all over the forest... Huuuh?" "You did WHAT?! Ah! I get it. Well done, you! This very operation, my little cloud-minded friend, will help us regain our reputation in Dark Enchantress Cookie's eyes!" "Huuuh? It will...?" The two hid behind a big rock, waiting for unsuspecting Cookies to stumble upon the poisonous mushrooms, then placed quite generously along the main forest roads. Soon enough, the little Head Icon Pancake Cookie appeared, whooshing merrily among the tree branches. "Whooohoo! Phew! Huh?! A mushroom?!" "Yes, yes! Now pick the mushroom!" Licorice Cookie was already savoring the moment when Fig Cookie suddenly emerged from the woods and stood in Pancake Cookie's way. "You'd betta not wake up this mushroom from its peaceful dreams!" "What?! Mushrooms can dream?!" "You betcha, lil one!" Every mushroom an' fruit innis for'st dreams 'eir own sweet dreams! Wanna hear a story?" "Yes! Yes! And! Can I ride on your back?!" Fig Cookie kneeled, allowing Pancake Cookie to climb atop their back. Then the two rushed away: the light and clear sound of Fig Cookie's little hooves was accompanied by Pancake Cookie cheerful giggling. Licorice Cookie was speechless. Speechless and infuriated! The operation is bound to fail as long as these two meddlers are around! Licorice Cookie and his mushroom-loving sidekick decided to walk in the opposite direction. And so they walked, walked, and walked. The red-tinted sky had already started to darken when the conspirators finally found an old tree stump. "This is it! This is the place, Poison Mushroom Cookie!" "So... Put 'shroomies here?!" "Aha! The mushroom friends! Pleased to meetcha!" Suddenly, the spore-sprinkling stopped. Both Licorice Cookie and Poison Mushroom Cookie froze in surprise. The smiling Fig Cookie stood in front of them with a mushroom in their hands. "Huuuh? You're heeeere? But I though... you went theeere?!" "Tis for'st is my home! I jump and prance here an' there! Are you two lost? Shall I point tha way?!" With these words, Fig Cookie picked Poison Mushroom Cookie up and galloped away. "THAT'S NOT THE PLAN, YOU...!" Licorice Cookie yelled at his companion, moving farther and farther away with a peaceful smile. He was left all alone, just he, himself, and his failure. In a few days, he finally managed to find a path out of the forest, raggier than ever. And echoes of his furious yet helpless yells still haunt the trees. |
