Ever wearing his signature nonchalant grin, Madeleine
Cookie doubted his own ears for a brief moment.
In a land across the vast seas, the two found
themselves in a republic famed for its sweets and
delicacies. Evidence of chaos had seeped throughout
the world, and the two had been elected to lead a
quest in search for a treasure of legends past.
Espresso Cookie had been voted for by the denizens,
and Madeleine Cookie designated as representative of
the knight order. It all started in the city square, the
core of life in their homeland.
On the day of their departure, many a wave and
greeting was shared with those who had gathered in
the square. After all, it wasn't everyday they could see
the Knight Commander himself, adorned in his shining
armor and brandishing that signature smile. And who'd
dare to refuse the blessings and cheers given at such
an occasion? Despite the time it took to navigate
through the crowd, their departure went without a
hitch.
Now at the border, Madeleine Cookie could not fathom
how he had earned such a dismissing tone. Had not
Espresso Cookie been the one to be rather
uncooperative from the start?
"There is no time for such pleasantries. Let us leave
on this so-called quest." Espresso Cookie scoffed as
Madeleine Cookie's extended hand froze in the air.
Espresso Cookie disregarded his
soon-to-be-comrade's hand as he climbed upon his
sugar horse. A mere two sentences spoken and nota
word since. Not even a single wave or smile to the
Cookies as they made their departure. Even the
noble-hearted and magnanimous Madeleine Cookie
couldn't help but feel disappointed at his
counterpart's cheerless manner.
As Madeleine Cookie's cloak fluttered in the air, he
asked, "Is something on your mind?"
Espresso Cookie dismissed this question and merely
interjected, "I have no need for hindrances such as
Light  Magic."
Espresso Cookie's cold disdain left Madeleine Cookie
speechless for the first time.
At that moment, the two thought they would never
encounter each other again. After trekking across
valleys and rivers, asking directions from passersby,
the commander arrived at a neighboring kingdom. But
lo and behold, have the fates played some strange
part? Who else had entered the very same kingdom?
None other than Espresso Cookie himself! But woe,
the spelicaster made a brisk turn the other way at the
sight of Madeleine Cookie.
Is it not the first time for both of them to have left
the homeland? Is it not the perfect opportunity to
accomplish great feats together? Yet the two cannot
share even a simple conversation, let alone be seen
together for more than a second. Why, oh why,
Madeleine Cookie constantly ponders aloud. Perhaps
one day, the two adventurers can... discuss the matter
upfront. |
