Guest at the Funeral

Guest at the Funeral
Guest at the Funeral" You should lay your flowers now, before the ceremony concludes. "
Costume
StoryWhite Lily Cookie spoke first. The knight must have arrived before the ceremony began and had been standing there silently ever since. "You should lay your flowers now, before the ceremony concludes." The white knight finally broke his silence, "The ceremony shall end the moment I lay my flowers is this what you desire?" To someone, these words held little meaning, but White Lily Cookie smiled. She understood who the knight was. "There will be no more mourners today. In life, this Cookie didn't make many friends... Therefore, please. End it." The knight answered coldly, "Very well." And at the very moment the white knight's cobalt rose touched the coffin, the many candles lighting the hall went dark in an instant, blanketing the two in gloom. All but one-the one last candle in White Lily Cookie's hand. In this twilight, the knight's armor glowed dimly. Now, White Lily Cookie knew the mysterious guest's name for certain. He was the one who guided souls to a world beyond. One who could cross freely the very border her heart yearned to know more about. One who could answer the question of what awaits after this life... In the blink of an eye, the knight who stood by the crumbled traversed across the hall. "You are... the Guide of the Crumbled, aren't you?" asked White Lily Cookie. The white knight didn't grace White Lily Cookie with a reply, as her question was filled with certainty. Yet even he couldn't foresee her next words. "I've always wished to meet you... I've always wanted to know what lies beyond the flames of life." None greeted the Guide of the Crumbled with anything but dread. The extinguisher of life, he was accustomed to anger and grudge. But not curiosity. After a long silence, he uttered, "Then, you must know what I meant." "Know that you only visit to end someone's life?" White Lily Cookie replied with a question and smiled faintly, looking at the white knight. She stepped towards him, her candle flickering. "It's sad when someone departs..." Step by step, muffled by the carpet halving the hall, she reached the entrance and stood before the knight. As she looked at the harbinger of the eternal farewell, she continued, "But it would've been sadder if no one greeted them at the other side. After all, that would mean that nothing awaits us there. There are no new beginnings, nor reunions..." The knight didn't say a word; his one-eyed mask revealed no part of his face. But even so, White Lily Cookie knew he was listening. "You came for me, an outcast... So please, when the time comes, guide my friends as well." As if it had been waiting patiently for White Lily Cookie to finish her sentence, her candle went out with a thin thread of smoke. The white knight averted his gaze but replied, "The journey to cross the river of oblivion is not for the weak of spirit." As he stepped towards White Lily Cookie, a gust of wind flung open the hall's door, welcoming another traveler to the place of eternal rest. The Guide's voice rolled across the hall. "But nothing is fairer than this path." He reached his hand out to White Lily Cookie. "I shall be your guide." White Lily Cookie laid her hand on his. "May I know your name?" When was the last time he revealed his own name? He replied, knowing that whatever soul crossed the river of oblivion was fated to forget. Hiding a familiar sorrow behind the tear depicted on his mask, he said, "Silent Salt Cookie."
